A Stronger Foundation: Now Including Our Own European Search Index

Before we walk through everything that is new, we need to talk about what is underneath it all, because this is the upgrade that makes everything else possible.

From the beginning, xPrivo has been built on the European Search Perspective, a fully independent search index that has no ties to US tech giants and is 100% European. That foundation has not changed and will never change. But today we are adding a new layer on top of it: our own small proprietary xPrivo Search Index.

This means that when you search on xPrivo today, results are drawn from two fully European, fully independent sources working in tandem. Our own index allows us to fine-tune freshness, improve coverage for topics that matter to European users, and continue building toward a fully self-sufficient crawling and indexing infrastructure entirely under our control.

No Bing. No Google. No dependency on any American Big Tech platform at any layer of the result pipeline. That is not a marketing claim. That is our architecture.

Richer Results, Fully Under Your Control

The most visible change in xPrivo 4.0 is how much more your search results page can tell you, right from the first glance. We have introduced a complete suite of rich result modules that surface the information you are looking for faster, without ever compromising your privacy.

Knowledge Cards

When you search for a person, a place, a concept, a historical event, or a public figure, xPrivo now surfaces a Knowledge Card directly in your results. This is a structured, concise overview that answers your question before you even click a link. Think of it as the first paragraph of an encyclopaedia entry, presented cleanly and immediately.

News Results

Searching for a topic that is in the headlines? xPrivo 4.0 now surfaces live news results directly inside your search page. Fresh articles from trusted European and international news publishers appear clearly labelled and timestamped, so you can stay informed with every search.

As always, the fact that you are reading about a particular news topic is never logged, never profiled, and never used to serve you targeted content later.

Sports Results

From Bundesliga standings to Champions League scores, xPrivo now delivers live and recent sports results directly in your search results. Search for a team, a match, a competition, or a player and get the numbers you care about without wading through a dozen links first.

Image Results

Search results now include images inline, beautifully integrated into the results page. Whether you are researching a product, exploring a travel destination, or simply looking something up visually, images are now part of the xPrivo experience by default.

Place Search

Searching for a restaurant in Munich, a pharmacy in Lyon, or a supermarket in Luxembourg? xPrivo 4.0 introduces full place search, surfacing local points of interest directly in your results, complete with maps, opening hours, and contact information. Place search is still in its early stages and currently offers limited coverage, so some locations may not yet appear in the results. However, the index is expanding every day.

Finding somewhere nearby has always required handing your location to a US tech giant. We have changed that. Place search on xPrivo keeps every layer of that interaction inside European infrastructure.

You Are Always in Control

Every single one of these new result types, Knowledge Cards, News, Sports, Images, Places, can be toggled on or off individually from your search settings. If you want a clean, pure web results page with no cards and no images, you can have exactly that. If you want everything, you can have that too. The choice is yours, not ours.

Now With German Language Results

xPrivo 4.0 adds comprehensive German language search results. Whether you are searching in German or looking for German-language sources, xPrivo now delivers relevant, high-quality results for German-speaking users across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

This is part of our ongoing expansion of language support across Europe. The European internet is multilingual, and xPrivo should be too. More languages are coming.

Introducing Shortcuts: Power Features at Your Fingertips

We built Shortcuts for users who want to move fast. Instead of navigating menus or opening a separate tool, you can now trigger powerful features directly from the search bar using a simple slash command.

/m opens a weather widget directly in your search results. Check the forecast without your query being handed to a weather service that tracks you.

/c opens a calculator to let you run a quick calculation without leaving xPrivo

/ai triggers an AI overview of your query instantly. Rather than browsing through ten links to assemble an answer, you get a structured, conversational summary generated entirely within our European AI infrastructure, with no data leaving the EU.

More shortcuts are being developed. Shortcuts are designed to make xPrivo the only tool you need for the first moments of any research task.

Introducing QuickSearch: Open Any Website Instantly

QuickSearch is one of the most powerful features we have ever shipped, and once you start using it, you will wonder how you lived without it.

Type a ! command followed by your query in the xPrivo search bar, and you will be taken directly to that website with your query already loaded. No intermediate results page. No extra click. Instant.

These are known in some communities as bangs. We built our own implementation, running entirely inside xPrivo, with no third-party bang service tracking which sites you jump to or how often. Your QuickSearch behaviour is yours alone.

For Businesses: List Your Location on xPrivo Search

Privacy is for people. Visibility is for businesses. And with xPrivo 4.0, local businesses across Europe can now be discoverable inside the most privacy-respecting search engine on the continent.

Business owners can now submit their location directly to xPrivo Search. When someone searches for a relevant business, product, or service nearby, your business listing can appear directly in the results, complete with:

• Your business location shown on a map
• A photo of your business or storefront
• A direct link to your website

This is an entirely privacy-safe business listing system. We do not use advertising profiling, retargeting, or behavioural data to determine where your listing appears. Placement is based on relevance, never on who paid the most to follow a particular user around the web.

For European small and medium businesses looking to be more visible online without feeding the Big Tech advertising machine, this is a meaningful alternative. Simply click "Add a business" in the footer of the search engine at xprivo.com/search

The Privacy Principles Have Not Changed

As xPrivo grows and adds features, we want to be absolutely clear: none of this changes the foundational commitments that define us.

• We do not track you. No IP logging. No search history. No session identifiers.
• We do not profile you. Your queries are never aggregated into a behavioural model.
• We do not use Big Tech infrastructure by default. No Bing index. No Google. No AWS. No Azure.
• We do not use Big Tech ad networks. Revenue comes from our own privacy-native ad system matched to your current query, never your history.
• Your data stays in Europe. Every component of xPrivo runs inside the European Union, under GDPR and EU law.

The richness of xPrivo 4.0 is proof that you do not have to trade privacy for power. You never had to.

What Is Coming Next

We are just getting started. Here is what is already in development.

Android App (including FOSS on F-Droid). Our Android app is in active development and will be released soon. Crucially, it will also be available on F-Droid, the independent open-source app repository, so that privacy-conscious Android users who do not use the Google Play Store can install xPrivo without touching Google infrastructure. We are one of very few search applications committed to doing this.
